BRAND EXPANSION, WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA GRAPHICS
The Project
Thrive Philanthropy is a global grantmaker that accelerates alternatives to industrial animal agriculture and amplifies the plant-based, food justice movement in half the world’s countries and six continents across Asia, South America, Africa, and the Global North. Their work is critical and impressive, but their website and visuals weren’t showing off their strengths.
Our Approach
We evaluated their existing brand to find out whether or not it was a solid foundation upon which to build more brand elements. Afterwards, we built an expanded brand kit, extensive website, and social templates to help their teams create consistent and compelling graphics across all their programs.

Core Branding Check
Before we came in, Thrive had a solid logo and palette with established brand equity within the movement. We stayed true to their original design scheme, making only small edits for improving balance and provided a larger suite of logo files and a full brand guide to help complete the kit.
Sub-Branding
Thrive needed a way to differentiate their core programs, and a sub-brand scheme that could be applied to future programs as they expand into the future. We worked with them to establish a visual identity for their Africa and Grants programs – assigning an accent color for each that stands apart from the more calming core palette. These hues were chosen to mimic the natural, earthy feel of the core palette, yet stand apart more vibrantly to represent the rich cultures they represent.
Custom Textures & Patterns
A key part of the brand expansion was infusing more life, approachability, softness, and warmth to the Thrive brand. We used custom illustration and textures to push forward Thrive’s personality in their visual materials. The patterns are inspired by traditional African textile patterns, flowing natural elements, and plant-based foods.
Website Design
Thrive’s previous website was functional, but it lacked visual interest and didn’t communicate Thrive’s personality at a glance. We worked with Thrive to streamline their site’s experience, create a strong first impression for first-time visitors, and infuse more life and color into the design. The result is a site that remains professional and serious to communicate their sincerity and mission focus, but also lets users feel welcome and invited to join in on their work.
Social Media Graphics & Training
We created a robust social media kit for Thrive to use seamlessly among all of their programs within Canva. This included a brand kit with all assets included in the brand guide, as well as a large set of templates that are appropriate for both general Thrive and program-specific communications. The core Thrive brand and sub-brands intermingle in the same feed, creating a patchwork of colors and patterns that attractively stand out on social media feeds. We also provided dedicated social media account review and training to Thrive’s core and Africa teams to improve their social media presence into the future.
